Wonderful moment near the very end when the woman opens her eyes. Stunning since they were closed the entire video.

Gorgeous, clever and engrossing stop motion.

The sandpit

Very compelling time-lapse tilt-shift video of New York – taken in several locations over the course of a day. The detail is endless, both in the stationary and the moving elements. The harbor is impressive to watch, boats dancing on the water, helicopters coming and going like mosquitos.

Logo Design

Great article on logo design.

Logo design in today’s world is totally underrated. People don’t understand how important a good logo is and how valuable it is to their business. Let me guide you through the basics of what makes a good logo, while also walking you through the process of creating the identity and logo design for one of my recent clients, Vero, a limited liability company based in Miami, Florida. Hopefully, this will give you an understanding of what actually goes on behind the scenes while creating a professionally designed logo.

Replication animation

Coolest thing I’ve seen in years.

The actual replication process for DNA. Note how one strand has to be copied in reverse in short loops. Truly lovely animation that makes me more and more certain this world did not happen by accident.

Ohmigawd. Oh.Mah.GAWD. Accurate right down to those pesky deeply-buried top screws. siiigh… (wipes away tear)

Go nowget.

If you drove one of the earliest Macs, this is an official ‘Holy Relic’ – and should be treated as such.

Garry Booth has created a lovely piece of artwork that any Mac Geek would be proud to have.

Good job folks!

I hope the folks at Denver Apple Pi see this soon.

Little Red Revisited

As part of a school assignment, Tomas Nilsson created a modern interpretation of Little Red Riding Hood as an animated music video for the song “Sponsored by Destiny” by Slagsmålsklubben.

Tomas’ animation was inspired by the music video for “Remind Me” by Röyksopps.

How it began

History of the Internet is really cool animated documentary by Melih Bilgil showing how the Internet has evolved from its ARPANET origins. The video is illustrated using PICOL icons, an project that helps provide free and open icons to help facilitate a common pictorial language for electronic communication.

Gargoyles

univpagargoyle_04.jpg univpagargoyle_02.jpg univpagargoyle_03.jpg

I loved the architechture at the University of PA in Philadelphia! The University buildings themselves were covered with great gargoyles (all commissioned sculptures!) and plaques commemorating Ivy Day. I’m slowly digging through a huge collection of slides from my days there (I was a lab technician in the Biology Dept. in Leidy Labs and worked for Drs. Lee Peachey, Clara Franzini-Armstrong, Louis G. Tilney among others).

Great Wave

Lovely sculpture from the Univ of PA Museum in Philadelphia.

The wave itself was cast silver and the sphere polished crystal – mesmerizing to look at!

It was inside a plexiglass case that was none-too-clean and the lighting was very poor, thus I had to use a flash – took several shots to get a proper exposure.

Easter Lily

Easter Lily

An Easter Lily in a greenhouse at the University of PA, Philadelphia (Leidy Labs). Every year they’d grow hundreds of these for biology students to dissect when studying plant reproduction. The greenhouse would be heavy with the fragrance.

Cupid’s Pissed

Close-up of a statue I saw at the Philadelphia Art Museum. It was part of a travelling show – the Campbells Collection (as in soup, yes, that Campbells – it’s actually pretty neat – all those paste porcelain tureens and bowls led to some insane paste porcelain sculpture. Luscious stuff. Serious eye candy.) Can’t find any other references to these on the web. If I can find the full shot of the statue, I’ll post it too.
