Just had a very disheartening experience with a hosting company - one recommended by the developers at WordPress.org : Bluehost.com
I chose their service for my primary employer’s site and have thus far been delighted with their service (except their server response time, which they claim is due to local network issues, but now I’m not so sure).
I decided to sign my wife up using their service (for a small business she’s starting) and bit on their $6.95/mo deal for 24 months - until the next morning when I saw that they’d billed me for all of the 24 months at once - and nothing on any of the pages we saw indicated that. I really should have known when there was no total page indicating what I’d bought (like 99% of the other vendors I’ve done business with). They were more than happy to change it to a three-month rate, oh, but would have to add a $30 service fee.
At that point I realized whom I was dealing with and the Orem, UT address suddenly loomed large in my memory. They agreed to cancel the account and refund the full amount, but the jury’s still out on that one.
My advice: stay away from BlueHost, deceptive marketing = crooked at heart.
Sad too, great technical features and good support… ruined by someone with no ethics.
