A New Wind Blowing

by Mary Pitt

The whole country is agog with the news of the Madoff Ponzi scheme and the billions he scammed from big investors, but nobody appears to realize that it is only the tip of a huge iceberg. There are other so-called legitimate institutions afloat in the private sector that are profiting from similar scams with the heartfelt approval of the raging capitalists in government as well as private individuals. …

Fearing the Frightful Filibuster

by Mary Pitt

The Republicans are already indicating their intent to use the same tactics that they used in the past two years in the minority to block many of the programs that are vital to the plans of President-elect Obama. They cling to the “sixty-vote cloture” rule as if it were the Holy Grail and intend to exercise it at every turn in the deliberations of the upcoming Congressional session.

Let them! …

So, so wrong (as usual)

Lifted directly from firedoglake: (FDL ROCKS)

Hugh Hewitt, Townhall:
So, despite the rapture of college students and the registration of the homeless in Ohio, the common sense of Americans will override curiosity about Barack Obama and infatuation with his celebrity, and trust John McCain to pilot the country for the next four years…America is a great and good nation, and it will not turn itself over to a party in the grip of its hardest left cadres, its most corrupt machine and its least experienced nominee ever.

McCain in a Nutshell

John McCain In A ‘Nutshell’– Philanderer, War Pimp, Bush Policy Clone, and Neocon Liar…
(Without his shell, McCain is simply a nut that needs to be cracked, picked apart and exposed)

By Vincent L. Guarisco

Back in April 2007, I wrote a zinger about the foolish maverick John McCain after he returned from his triumphant walkabout on the brutal streets of Baghdad. Johnny Boy headed straight for the public airways, where he smirkingly gushed that the streets of Iraq are now ‘safe.’ The foolish war pimp tried to sell the lie that everything was cozy and secure, even as he strutted around wearing his bulletproof vest, surrounded by a heavily armed military entourage buzzing in air and on the ground all around him. Indeed, according to McCain, Baghdad was safe then, and it’s even safer today.

The Ed McMahon Example

by Mary Pitt

This morning, August 18th, the news was blaring from CNN and MSNBC: Donald Trump Bails Out Ed McMahon! The story that followed told us that poor ole Ed had fallen ill, was having a hard time financially and was in danger of losing his home. Now, I do not lack for sympathy for this poor man who had such an illustrious and munificent career and who can, even now, be seen on commercial television hawking insurance for oldsters so that they will not be devastated by one of the lingering illnesses that we oldster are prone to develop.

The 7th Anniversary of 9/11 and the Cycle of War

By Vincent L. Guarisco 16 August, 2008 Countercurrents.org

‘Why would all 110 stories drop straight down to the ground in about 10 seconds, pulverizing the contents into dust and ash – twice. Why would all 47 stories of WTC 7 fall straight down to the ground in about seven seconds the same day? It was not struck by any aircraft or engulfed in any fire. An independent investigation is justified for all three collapses including the surviving steel samples and the composition of the dust.’ ~Ronald H. Brookman, structural engineer, with a masters degree in Engineering from UC Davis

When We Forget to Remember…

By Sheila Samples

The gutters are clogged with the dead

The ones who couldn’t join in

The others refusing to sing

The ones who are losing their voice

The ones who’ve forgotten the tune.

Excerpt “God Bless America,” Harold Pinter, January 2003

Preceeding generations had every reason to believe those following them would step into the breach and continue the vigil over this nation’s Constitutional freedoms and, if necessary, fight to preserve them. They believed, like George Washington warned — “Government is a “force; like fire, a troublesome servant and a fearful master. Never for a moment should it be left to irresponsible action.” And they remembered, from generation to generation. Unfortunately, those following our generation will have no such luxury.

Dare to Look Back

“…the high office of the President has been used to forment a plot to destroy the American’s freedom, and before I leave office, I must inform the citizens of this plight.” John F. Kennedy (November 12, 1963, Columbia U, 10 days before his assassination)

I cannot recall a single day since Vulcans’ Godfather James Baker sent his thuggish henchman John Bolton to Florida’s Palm Beach County to screw up the vote count that has not been filled with horror, anger, shame — despair. On Dec. 9, 2000 — three days before the Florida deadline — the US Republic shuddered on its axis when Bolton crashed through the doors of a Tallahassee library where Miami-Dade ballots were being recounted and shouted triumphantly — “I’m with the Bush-Cheney team, and I’m here to stop the count!”

The Peril of Doing Nothing

by Mary Pitt

After November’s election, the people were feeling optimistic, having elected a Democratic majority in the House and more than an even balance in the Senate. Speaker Pelosi announced her “first 100 hours” strategy and we were ready to watch the reform take place. However, the euphoria was short-lived as the House passed first one “non-binding resolution” only to have it squelched by the Republican bloc in the Senate. The Democrats, unlike the Dixie Chicks, are still convinced that they need to make nice. Perhaps they were in the minority for too long and it was simply easier to fall back into the same old habits of huddling helplessness. In addition, the next election campaign is on everybody’s minds and key figures are playing to the power structure rather than to the electorate.

Chimps in a Zoo Cage

By Sheila Samples

“Journalism is not a profession or a trade. It is a cheap catch-all for fuckoffs and misfits – a false doorway to the backside of life, a filthy piss-ridden little hole nailed off by the building inspector, but just deep enough for a wino to curl up from the sidewalk and masturbate like a chimp in a zoo-cage.”

– Hunter Thompson, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The Great Social Security Theft

by Mary Pitt

I recently read a lament about how the poor illegal immigrants are working to pay for someone else’s retirement and, later, a news item about the fact that we are on the verge of siging an agreement that would allow these same immigrants to draw benefits based on their earnings under the Social Security numbers that they have stolen from honest American workers. It might be beneficial to analyze the working of the Social Security System and the ramifications and the consequences of these violations of “the law as she is written”.

Why Conservatives Balk at GOP

By William Frey, M.D.

October 26, 2006

Editor’s Note: George W. Bush frequently states that the U.S. government’s highest duty is to protect the safety of Americans. But many traditional conservatives — as well as many other Americans — disagree with Bush’s priority. They believe that the first responsibility of any President is to defend the Constitution and its guarantees of individual liberty.

HE’S B-A-A-A-A-C-K…

“Words ought to be a little wild, for they are the assault of thoughts

on the unthinking.”~~John M. Keyne

Much to the dismay of the Bush Crime Family and the Flying Monkey Right, their most fervent nemesis, talk-show host Mike Malloy, will return to progressive airwaves on Monday, Oct. 30 — a whole week-and-one-day before the mid-term elections. When you consider the corruption and scandals oozing like slime from the right over just the past week-and-one-day, Malloy’s return is not a moment too soon.

A Libby Pardon for Christmas?

From TomDispatch:

Sometimes, the proximate cause of an unraveling, even an implosion, may catch everyone by surprise. This week the “tipping point” (to borrow a Bush administration phrase from the Iraq War) for the possible unraveling of Republican control of Congress may be the roiling, boiling Mark Foley affair with its sexually explicit emails and instant messages to teenage House pages, which, in the pattern of any such scandal, has surely not yet fully emerged into view.

FOOL’S GOAL

By Sheila Samples

I will seize the opportunity to achieve big goals.”~~George W. Bush

My friend Bernie says a lot of folks have George Bush figured all wrong. “Sure he lies,” Bernie said, “every time he opens his mouth. But — think about it. Even when Bush is lying he ends up telling us what he’s gonna do. He can’t help himself — he just blurts it out. But by the time we understand what he’s saying — he’s already made a stinkin’ mess and moved on to the next one.”

Why Bush Will Nuke Iran

By Paul Craig Roberts

09/26/06 “Information Clearing House” — — The neoconservative Bush administration will attack Iran with tactical nuclear weapons, because it is the only way the neocons believe they can rescue their goal of US (and Israeli) hegemony in the Middle East.

Mad Dog on a Leash

By Sheila Samples

“We should prepare to go on the offensive. Our aim is to smash Lebanon, Trans-Jordan, and Syria. The weak point is Lebanon, for the Moslem regime is artificial and easy for us to undermine. We shall establish a Christian state there, and then we will smash the Arab Legion, eliminate Trans-Jordan; Syria will fall to us. We then bomb and move on and take Port Said, Alexandria and Sinai.”

-David Ben-Gurion, May 1948
