Hearing reports of numerous deaths in friends’ families. I hate losing people I love.
It is interesting to bump into your site via viewing your San Francisco photos then finding that you have made two statements that is of interest to me, one, you are a “guru” and the other is your blog statement “Sucks to get old”
I hate to give it away but I am now 56 years old and finding that I need to have a new way of making a living and have been looking at learning enough about the computer and the internet to earn at least something but so far as I can tell it seems to be a younger persons game. Most of the time when I think about the possibility of earning a “living” working from home on a computer at this stage of the game I just want to forget about it.
By the way, I am surprised at how much you and your wife and friends share regarding your lives, photos etc.
While there are disadvantages to getting older, consider the alternative.
Yes, alternative… “The Big Dirt Nap” *shudder* ok… maybe not so bad.
Shame on you children! With a third of your life remaining, you are ready to roll over, pull the covers over your heads, and give up! Try being a little more cognizant of what you can do instead of what you have always done. Your children, if you have them, are now all grown up and can fend for themselves, (at least if you have done a good job). You have fewer responsibilities and so, with fewer details crowding your mind, you can think more clearly and, with the wisdom which you have accumulated, you can do so with a greater understanding of both history and human nature.
You are now the “senior generation”, the guardians of tradition and the inspiration for the young! And you want to roll your heads back, let your tongue hang out, and die like an old dog. How dumb! With thirty years or so left of the gift of life, you are moaning about the glass being half empty. I have children your age and, if I ever hear them talking that way, I will give them such a verbal kick in the behind!
I may be old, but you are not. So get mad, marshall your not-inconsiderable mental and economic strength, abd get out there and make a difference in the world! You may not be able to change it overnight but, combined, your efforts can be formidable. If you can change one person’s life or inspire them to greater effort to be all they can be. If you do not, perhaps you are right and you should just roll over and die. I, for one, intend to keep on living until it is time to die!
